Skin treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing, may be ideal for people looking to remedy the evidence that age, excessive sun exposure, acne, and other factors have left on their skin. Our New Orleans and Metairie cosmetic surgery practice offers the highly acclaimed Fraxel laser, which combines both an ablative and non-ablative process to resurfacing the skin. Ablative laser treatment is a quick and effective means of resurfacing the skin, but post-treatment recovery takes longer. Non-ablative laser treatment takes longer to achieve desired results, but healing time is drastically decreased. Fraxel combines the two, allowing the effective resurfacing but with less downtime. Fraxel laser skin resurfacing addresses a number of skin irregularities, including age spots and brown spots, acne scars, wrinkles around the eyes, and the treatment allows dull skin to take on a healthy glow.
"I had a breast augmentation done in 2011. The results were amazing!"- Anonymous / Vitals / Feb 11, 2016
"I had my first experience with plastic surgery at 21, and had breast augmentation with another surgeon in a different city. At the time I wanted very large breasts and was satisfied with my decision. Over the next ten years, my wants changed and I was looking for something different. I came to Dr. Walters, after hearing numerous amazing reviews, with the intent of having my implants removed, breasts lifted, and a new implant replacing the older one, as well as liposuction in various places. Through consultation and guidance from Dr. Walters, I came to the decision that I would have my implants removed, breasts lifted, liposuction, and fat transferred into my breasts and hips for a more natural and contoured appearance. I will admit that I doubted this a little bit, after all I have always wanted a large chest and who wants fat back into their body after it is sucked out?!?! I was nervous, but I trusted Dr. Walters. And, I could not be any happier that I did. I always hated the shape of my breasts and when I had my implants all I had was a larger version of what I hated. Dr. Walters took his time and changed that. He helped me achieve exactly what I was hoping for. He was caring, honest, and professional through the entire process and really made me feel like he not only cared about his work, but me too, as a patient. I would highly recommend Dr. Walters, and I am usually pretty hard to impress!"- Anonymous / Vitals / Jan 24, 2017
"32yr. Old, Breastfed 2 Kids 32A to 32C/D Natrelle Inspira 345ccHP Inframammary - New Orleans, LA - Dr. Khoobehi performed a flawless breast augmentation on me recently. Unfortunately I have a wide set sternum and that limited the size I was anticipating (375-400cdc) He was honest about what my body could most fit to safely achieve a natural look as possible. He offered us and educated us on a fat transfer combo to fill in where I lack cleavage but with much thought we decided to decline but may consider in the future. He made myself and my husband as comfortable as possible in never second guessing our decision to Choose him. His staff was always so helpful and prompt at answering questions. Because of his artists eye and feather touch the healing process couldn't be going better. I'm really pleased that My scar is small smooth and healing nicely"- B. / RealSelf / Jan 23, 2017
"This is my second time having lip augmentation with Dr. Weiss. I highly recommend that you do your research before choosing a doctor. I was not rushed at all. I talked to Dr. Weiss about exactly what I wanted and he was able to achieve exactly what I wanted. Recovery time varies by person, but I had a very quick recovery (2-4 days) for the swelling and faint bruises to fade. He stopped and asked if I liked the result before continuing with the rest of syringe to make sure that my lips did not look over-done. The results look very natural and I am very pleased with my lips' appearance! I wouldn't want to go anywhere else."- Anonymous / Vitals / Jan 21, 2017
Before beginning the Fraxel laser skin resurfacing procedure, a blue tint is applied to the area to be treated. This tint allows the laser to distinguish the subtle contours of the treatment area. After an anesthetic ointment is applied and allowed to take effect, the laser treatment is performed. Fraxel laser skin resurfacing is offered at our Metairie practice on an outpatient basis. Laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that utilizes focused laser beams to remove the upper layer of the skin, and reveal a healthy, new layer. The application is precise and accurate as it manages the skin layer by layer. This method is effective in skin regeneration because the removed skin is replaced by new tissue growth. It also stimulates collagen development, which is an important factor when it comes to healthy skin. When used on fine wrinkles or other skin irregularities, the increased growth of collagen renders a more supple, younger-looking appearance. Laser skin resurfacing’s advanced technology allows accurate targeting of smaller areas so the surrounding skin is not affected. A session may take up to 2 hours depending on the patient’s skin conditions.
During/After the Procedure
Laser resurfacing is an outpatient procedure. There may be pain during treatment, so local anesthesia can be used to minimize the patient’s discomfort. The doctor may also prescribe the patient a pain reliever after the procedure. The face may be bandaged after treatment. Since the epidermis is peeled away, the skin may appear red for several weeks. As it heals, crusting may be present. It is very important to follow the doctor’s advice on skin care to prevent any scarring. It may take a few days before the patient can resume normal activities. It may also be beneficial to use an extra pillow when sleeping to ease any discomfort.
The average price for laser resurfacing ranges from $1,000 to $2,500. The range depends on the type of laser used and the size of the treated area. Additional costs include medications, doctor and facility fees, or any additional treatments needed. Insurance companies rarely cover any treatment that is cosmetic in nature. If the total cost is more than expected, it may be worthwhile to check other financing options the clinic may offer.

Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs
Negative Effects on Skin?
Although the procedure will wear the skin surface away, there is a minimal risk of scarring, especially when post-treatment care is implemented. It is critical to find a reputable doctor or technician with comprehensive experience with laser skin treatments. It’s important for the surgeon to understand different technologies affect different skin types. When done correctly, the result is a long-lasting healthy skin effective in combating signs of aging and skin damage.
Aside from the natural effects of aging, personal habits and environmental factors, results can be long lasting. Maintenance treatments may be considered as signs of aging get more and more significant over time.
Ablative or Non-Ablative?
It depends mainly on the patient’s skin condition and cosmetic goals. Another factor to consider is how quick the recovery period should be or if there should be no downtime for the patient. The doctor will discuss each treatment in detail and recommend the best approach that matches the patient’s circumstances.
