About Laser Tattoo Removal
You may have a number of reasons why you no longer want your tattoo. Perhaps it represents a difficult memory. Or maybe it's lost color or simply no longer represents who you are. Whatever the reason, advances in tattoo removal equipment have helped make it feasible to lighten and maybe even eliminate the unwanted tattoo altogether. At Khoobehi Associates Plastic Surgery in Metairie and New Orleans, LA, plastic surgeon Dr. Kamran Khoobehi and his experienced staff perform tattoo removal using the Lumenis PiQo4 sophisticated laser system. The Lumenis PiQo4 laser device has proven to produce better results than other tattoo removal technologies and may necessitate fewer treatments. It can treat a wde variety of pigment colors using different energy levels through short laser pulses. To learn more about laser tattoo removal using the Lumenis PiQo4 laser, contact our facility to schedule a consultation.
The PiQo4 laser works with both Nanosecond and Picosecond laser pulses to break down both deep and shallow pigment in the skin. The Nanosecond pulses are delivered first to break down the larger, deeper areas of pigment, and then the Picosecond pulses eliminate the smaller, shallower areas of pigment. Due to the higher energy levels of the PiQo4, fewer treatments are typically needed to achieve optimal results, and the laser technology can shatter a variety of pigment/ink colors in both small and large treatment areas.
"I had a breast augmentation done in 2011. The results were amazing!"- Anonymous / Vitals / Feb 11, 2016
"Why did I walk around with a botched neck lift for 5 years, well because I was waiting for Dr. Khoobehi to come along and fix it. If you have a procedure, don't be alarmed in the first couple of weeks while the swelling distorts the results. When the dust settles, Dr. Khoobehi's work if by far the best. The only surgeon I trust with anything now."- Anonymous / RateMDs / Jul 09, 2019

There's a number of considerations which may improve the success of your laser tattoo removal. Good candidates for laser tattoo removal:
- Have a strong immune system. This helps the body’s ability to break down and eliminate the ink properties.
- Are healthy overall. Smoking and eating an unhealthy diet limit the body's immune system from functioning at max efficiency.
- Have strong differences between the ink color and the skin color. The greater the contrast, the greater the result.
- Have older tattoos. The older a tattoo is, the better it will respond to treatment.
As soon as it is determined that your skin is ideal for laser tattoo removal, the tattoo will be prepared with a thorough cleansing and an application of a topical anesthetic. The laser technician will begin by passing the handpiece of the PiQo4 over the tattooed skin as it releases pulsing laser light and energy. The time it takes to complete the procedure varies and depends on the size and type of the treatment area. In some situations, the tattoo may require multiple sessions before obvious results are seen. These factors will all be discussed during your consultation.
What to Expect
After each session, a topical cream will be applied to the skin along with bandages to keep the area protected. You should not be alarmed by swelling, redness, and sensitivity, similar to the discomfort that accompanies receiving the tattoo. You may also feel like you have a sunburn and experience minor scabbing. It's important to adhere to aftercare instructions carefully to speed up the recovery process. Once the site has completed healed, your next treatment session can be scheduled. Sessions typically will not be scheduled less than 4 – 7 weeks of each other.
