Full, plump lips are often considered a sign of health and a marker of beauty. Some people find that their thin lips affect their confidence when it comes to their smile.
There are many options for lip augmentation and we are happy to discuss these during the initial consultation.
New Orleans aesthetic surgeon Dr. Kamran Khoobehi performs lip augmentation to help patients achieve fuller, defined, and luscious lips. There are several ways to achieve this look, depending on your personal goals and aesthetic desires. These options include injectable fillers, such as Juvederm Ultra XC, or a fat transfer method using fat extracted from your body. While the results from both of these procedures look natural and beautiful, they are temporary. Patients who desire a more permanent approach to lip augmentation may consider dermal grafting, which uses the patient’s own tissue as an implant.
Lip Enhancement Options
- Fat Transfer: Fat deposits are harvested from the patient’s own body by means of liposuction. These collected fats are purified and reinstated with tiny syringes into the lips. The doctor will take the extra measure of reinstating the fat tissues, slowly layering the filler to reshape the lips to meet the patient’s aesthetic desires.
- Injectable Filler: This is a popular way to enhance the lips in a nonsurgical manner. Fillers are made from substances that are found naturally within the body such as hyaluronic acid and/or collagen based solutions. Fillers produce beautiful, natural results, however, they are considered short-term and reinjection are advised about every 6 months. Dr. Khoobehi prefer to use Juvederm Ultra XC for the lips. The treatment process is minimally invasive, approximately a 30 minute appointment. Results will be noticeable in as little as 2-3 days and will last 6-9 months.
- Autologous Dermis and Tissue: It’s an incision that is made in the corner of the mouth and the tissue is thread through the upper lip to add volume. This is a surgical procedure but the results are amazing!
Lip enhancement can be performed under general anesthesia at Outpatient Surgical Center or local anesthesia at Dr. Khoobehi accredited surgical suite. Lip Autologous Dermis and Tissue process is usually concluded within an hour. Injectable fillers require no anesthesia, however, a local numbing medication is usually used. After the procedure, the lips will be swollen and there may be bruising present. This will go away after a few days and the patient can see results of the treatment within 2-3 days.
Lip augmentation surgery fees can run up to $5,400. Injections average $600 (per syringe of filler). Although injectable fillers are less expensive than a single lip enhancement surgery, reinjection is typically needed to maintain the desired results every 6-9 months. Patients may decide that a more permanent solution is worthwhile. Dr. Khoobehi is known for his expertise and personalized approach in performing Lip Augmentation. He works closely with each patient to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to their specific needs and goals, ensuring that they achieve the best possible outcome.

Permanent Surgical Options Or Liquid Fillers?
