Do you want to enhance or enlarge your breasts with implants? Fat transfer breast augmentation may be the ideal solution for you. This procedure uses your body’s own fat to add size, shape, and cleavage. The recovery after fat injections for breast augmentation is quicker than recovering from breast implant surgery, but there is a healing process involved. This blog outlines what you can expect regarding your fat transfer breast augmentation recovery timeline.

Understanding the Recovery From Fat Transfer to the Breast

Breast enhancement using fat injections involves two steps and at least two areas of the body. The steps include:

  • Fat extraction: Dr. Khoobehi uses liposuction to remove excess fat from problem areas like the abdomen, thighs, and hips.
  • Fat grafting: Dr. Khoobehi purifies the extracted fat before injecting it into various areas of the breast to produce a naturally fuller contour.

All of the donor areas treated with liposuction will require time to heal as the body adjusts to its new shape. The breasts will also need some recovery time to ensure the injected fat grafts take to their new site and create the desired result.

How Long Does Fat Grafting Breast Augmentation Recovery Take?

Recovery from liposuction is the longest process after this procedure, and that usually takes about one week before the patient is ready to return to work and other activities. Patients must wear a compression garment around the donor areas to reduce swelling and help the body conform to the new contour. Dr. Khoobehi also advises patients to use post-surgery massage to promote circulation and minimize swelling.

The breasts will also experience some swelling and bruising at the injection sites. A surgical bra can help support your breasts as they heal and promote healthy circulation so the fat can attach to the new blood supply. You must also avoid putting any pressure on your breasts for the first few weeks, which means sleeping on your back to allow the new fat to settle properly.

A Timeline for Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Recovery from breast augmentation using fat injections is a gradual process marked by various milestones. While the specific timeline may vary somewhat for each patient, this recovery schedule will help you know what you can expect:

Surgery Day

Immediately after your procedure, you will be sore and swollen at the donor sites and breasts. You will need someone to drive you home after your surgery and stay with you for at least 24 hours. Minimize your activity for the first day and get plenty of rest lying on your back.

The First Week

During the first few days, you should concentrate on resting and allowing your body time to heal. Continue to wear your surgical bra and compression garments to manage swelling and soreness. By the end of the first week, you will likely experience a noticeable improvement in your discomfort and be ready to return to most of your activities.

The First Month

Despite some persistent swelling, you should start seeing the results of your procedure. Liposuction areas will begin to look smoother and more contoured, and your breasts should be settling into their new shape and size. You may be able to resume some light exercise at this point, but continue to avoid strenuous workouts or heavy lifting.

By six weeks, you should be completely cleared for physical exercise and other activities. Your results will continue to improve over the coming months, as your liposuction areas look leaner and your breasts fuller.
